Fundamentals of Photobiomodulation for Practitioners

The objective of this course is to teach the basic principles and practice of Photobiomodulation (Low Level Laser Therapy) to Registered Massage Therapists, Manual Osteopathic Therapists, Acupuncturists, Physiotherapists, Chiropractors, PT & DC Assistants, Athletic Therapists, Kinesiologists, Strength and Conditioning Specialists and Exercise Physiologists. Training includes the theory of photobiomodulation, differentiation with other kinds of red-light therapy, contraindications, most-common MSK conditions treated and hands-on experience treating each condition. We train practitioners to use laser effectively and comfortably to speed healing, reduce inflammation and alleviate pain.
Participants will understand the principles of Photobiomodulation and how it can speed healing, reduce inflammation and alleviate pain. They will learn about wavelengths (nanometers) and frequency (Hertz) and how these variables affect treatment outcomes. Participants will also learn about the differences between class 3b lasers and LED applicators. They will learn how to provide effective and comfortable treatment for a variety of musculoskeletal and other health conditions. Contraindications to treatment are addressed.
Clinical skills include hands-on treatment practice and coaching for all of the following areas:

• Rotator cuff injuries, tennis/golfer’s elbow.
• Plantar fasciitis
• Bursitis
• Neuropathies and nerve pain including sciatica
